Macerata with is medieval origins has several impressive monuments. The Sferisterio Theater is a neo-classical style building from the 19th c which does not only give place to an opera festival, but from time to time a traditional ball game is played here, too. The Loggia dei Mercanti originates from 1500. The building of Palazzo Compagnari Marefoschi with its relieves and Roman writings is from the 18th c. The Palazzo Buonaccorsi dates back to the 18th c. with its frescoed ceilings.
