CHURCH OF CAPUCHIN FRIARS

Description

CHIESA DEI FRATI CAPPUCCINI

In 1616 the convent and church dedicated to the Madonna of Loreto were built. The Capuchin friars have always had relations with the neighboring Leopardi family: the first right side chapel belongs to them, where the painting of the Madonna Consoler of the Afflicted, protector of the Leopardi Counts, was exhibited. According to the Rule of the Order it is without ornaments. On the main altar, built in walnut, there is a painting of the Madonna of Loreto by Girolamo Cialderi (1593 - 1680 Urbino), on the sides two 18th-century paintings depicting Saint Claire and Santa Margaret of Cortona. In the second altar, to the right of those who enter, the Madonna dell'Insalata, a valuable canvas attributed by art historians to the great artist of the 16th century, Caravaggio. On the square in front of the church a travertine stele was built, decorated with ceramics by Arturo Politi and Rodolfo Ceccaroni.
